Ebooks now fully integrated

Just a quick note to say that ebooks are now fully integrated into the HammerOn webshop.

Previously we had been using a plug in to sell ebooks which made the functionality a bit clunky.

The problem with selling ebooks – specifically EPUB files used on most mobile digital devices – is wordpress media library does not support these files or ‘MIMES’ (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions).

After some tweaking we found the best solution was to add an extra bit of code to the ‘custom_functions.php’ as recommended by this site.

function addUploadMimes($mimes) {
$mimes = array_merge($mimes, array(
‘epub|mobi’ => ‘application/octet-stream’
));
return $mimes;
}
add_filter(‘upload_mimes’, ‘addUploadMimes’);

Voila!

Our media library can now store EPUB and Mobi files and you can download them.

Parasitic art school – Call for participants

Organisers of paraca parama, a self-styled parasitic art school, asked us to help spread the word about their project whose name is partly inspired by The Para-Academic Handbook!

We’re looking for people who’d like to undertake an MFA, but who find themselves locked out of the academy by cost or circumstance.

We are committed to learning, thinking and making in both a critically and emotionally engaged way. We reject the cultural current of slick professionalisation, the call to cultivate a brand over honest work. We are unashamedly thirsty for space, time and support to think, make, speak and fail. We would like to do these things alongside others.

What we have to offer is fluid and will be worked out over time, but we would like to hear from artists who are interested in infiltrating the institution and engaging in a programme of study that runs parallel to an accredited Sculpture MA. The project will involve at least two group exhibitions and a publication of artist’s writing.

Unfortunately we are unable to offer studio space for participants but other resources will be available.

paraca parama will be running in London from October 2015 until July 2017.

For more information please see our website or email paraca.parama@gmail.com

To apply please send a brief artist statement and a link to some work to paraca.parama@gmail.com by midnight on the 1st September 2015.
